With Halloween approaching, the coronavirus pandemic is a concern for parents of trick-or-treaters. However, a Michigan man has come up with a solution to help ensure a safe, socially distanced night.
Matt Thompson, of Garden City, has created a zip line ghost that will deliver candy from his front porch to the sidewalk.
“A little early but here’s my solution for a socially distanced Halloween,” Thompson, who owns Thompson Woodart, wrote on Instagram. “Yes, I asked my family and neighbors to dress up their kids for my silly video. They did get candy out of the deal.”
The ghost is attached to a zipline, and using some fishing equipment, zooms across the front yard to ferry candy to the waiting children.
Thompson uses a rod and reel to bring the ghost back to the front porch for candy refills. Thompson even built a wood holder to zip beverages to adults walking with their trick-or-treaters.
It’s a nice alternative. While costumed children usually go door to door for Halloween candy, the high-touch nature and closeness among trick-or-treaters are creating concerns.
On Monday, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released a memo detailing risk factors regarding the spread of COVID-19 as Halloween approaches.
