According to The Clarion-Ledger , Constance Schwartz-Morini, co-founder of SMAC Entertainment which represents Sanders, suggested the coach donate a quarter of his salary to make up the difference needed to complete the overbudget project.
“This is your legacy we’re talking about,” Schwartz-Morini told Sanders, according to the newspaper.
Increasing his donation to half, however, means the facility could be completed one month before the season starts, motivating Sanders to up the ante.
“I’ll put more than that on it. I’ll put half on it to get this done. If you don’t believe me, check me. I will send you the receipts,” Sanders said, according to The Clarion-Ledger .
According to ESPN , Sanders signed a four-year deal worth an average of $300,000 per year in 2020 to coach at the historically Black university.
The NFL Hall of Famer wants the facility completed by Aug. 4, one full month before the Tigers’ opener against Florida A&M in Miami, Florida, BET reported.
According to the entertainment news outlet, Sanders, known as “Coach Prime,” led Jackson State to an 11-1 season in 2021, including sweeping all eight Southwestern Athletic Conference games.
