TAMPA, Fla. — A woman who allegedly stabbed a man to death in Sarasota, Florida, was found partially unconscious with a handwritten note about funeral arrangements, police say.
According to a news release from the Sarasota Police Department, Eugenia Bright, 43, has been arrested and is facing second-degree murder charges in connection with a suspicious death on Nov. 21.
SPD said that officers arrived at a house at the 800 block of Mecca Drive in Sarasota, Florida, just before 11 a.m. for a welfare check. Someone called police dispatch to report that Bright did not show up to work and was concerned for her well-being.
According to WFLA, when officers went inside the house, they reportedly found Bright in and out of consciousness on a bed in one of the rooms. Next to her, she had a bottle of pills. Police said that there was reportedly some blood on her clothes but there were no defensive wounds or other signs of trauma.
Bright allegedly told detectives that she took about 12 pills and tried to kill herself because she was tired. First responders took her to the hospital and gave her Narcan for the overdose, according to WFLA.
A large knife and handwritten note were also found with funeral requests, according to SPD.
According to WFLA, the note was reportedly from Bright stating that she didn’t want a funeral and that she wanted to be cremated. Along with that, the note gave police two people to notify of her death.
A man was also found in the house covered in blood in a bathroom with blood splattered on the sink and over the walls, according to WFLA. Police said that the 53-year-old man had been stabbed with large cuts to his back. He was pronounced deceased at the house.
SPD said that the man’s name is being withheld due to Marsy’s Law. According to WFLA, Marsy’s Law gives victims and families the right to have their names withheld.
SPD said a probable cause was established and Bright was taken into custody. She is being held without bond. Investigators believe that this was an isolated incident.
