GATLINBURG, Tenn. — Officials with Gatlinburg SkyLift Park temporarily closed the attraction for repairs Monday after a guest attempted to do a baseball-style slide and cracked a panel on SkyBridge, the park’s glass suspension bridge.

A metal object on the guest's clothing chipped the bridge, causing "noticeable cracks," park officials said. The guest had ignored rules which bar people from running, jumping or bouncing on the bridge.

No injuries were reported, and park officials said no guests were in danger. The attraction was closed around 8:30 p.m. Monday for repairs.

Officials said the damage was limited to the top, protective layer of one glass panel on the 680-foot SkyBridge. The bridge includes three glass panels at its center, each three-ply and measuring 5 feet by 5 feet.

Park officials said Monday’s incident did not affect the bridge’s structural integrity. The attraction is expected to reopen Tuesday.
