Carnival Corp. is helping with the recovery efforts after Hurricane Ida.

The cruise line company has docked the Carnival Glory at the Port of New Orleans to serve as emergency housing for frontline workers who are responding to health care and infrastructure needs, KATC reported.

The ship has provisions like food, water and other items for up to 2,600 hospital workers, first responders, city workers and utility workers, among other emergency personnel, Carnival Corp. said in a news release .
The company is working with city officials in New Orleans as well as the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
“While we want to provide the city of New Orleans with an economic boost by restarting guest operations, we want to first provide this critical housing support to address emergency needs and to get power restored to the region,” Christine Duffy, Carnival Cruise Line president, said in the release . “We appreciate the understanding of our guests, who we know love New Orleans as much as we do.”
The Glory is set to resume scheduled cruises on Sept. 19, NBC News reported.
More than a million people in metro New Orleans are without power after Hurricane Ida made landfall as a Category 4 storm last week, NBC News reported.
The storm forced the cancellation of cruises after more than a year of not sailing due to the coronavirus pandemic.
