KENNER, La. — A Louisiana man is facing murder charges after police said he confessed to killing his mother.
Kenner police were investigating a hit-and-run crash in Jefferson Parish when they spoke with Joshua Chambers, looking to speak to his mother, Cora, who was the registered owner of the vehicle, WWL reported.
In a press release, Kenner police said that when they asked to speak to Cora, Joshua Chambers told them that she was his mother and that he had killed her.
Police took Chambers into custody after seeing his mother dead on the floor of the kitchen. She had been hit several times with a hammer, police told NOLA.com.
A spokesperson for the Kenner Police Department told NOLA.com that Joshua Chambers has a history of mental illness, and was most recently taken into protective custody for evaluations in December 2021 and again in February.
Police said that Chambers gave them a detailed statement, not only admitting to the murder but saying that he was the driver in the hit-and-run as well, WWL reported.
