Issa Rae joining cast of ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’ sequel

Issa Rae is the newest member of the Spider-Verse.

The “Insecure” actress will lend her voice to the sequel to 2018′s “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Rae is the first new addition to the cast, which includes Shameik Moore and Hailee Steinfeld reprising their roles as Marvel superheroes Miles Morales (Spider-Man) and Gwen Stacy (Spider-Gwen), the website reported.

Rae will voice the character of Jessica Drew, better known as Spider-Woman, Variety reported.

Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers and Justin K. Thompson will be directing the feature, the website reported. Producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller will be writing the screenplay, along with David Callaham. The film will be produced by Amy Pascal, Avi Arad and Christina Steinberg, Variety reported. Original “Spider-Verse” director Peter Ramsey returns as an executive producer, with Lord and Miller’s Aditya Sood.

The sequel has a release date of Oct. 7, 2022, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

“Into the Spider-Verse” won an Academy Award for best-animated film and became a pop culture sensation, the website reported.

Plot details have been kept secret, according to Variety.

Rae is currently in production on the fifth and final season of “Insecure,” the website reported.
