John Hinckley Jr., who in 1981 tried to assassinate President Ronald Reagan, will be playing a sold-out music concert in July in New York.
Hinckley, 66, is scheduled to perform July 8 at the Market Hotel in Brooklyn, WABC is reporting.
According to Hinckley, he has been posting original songs plus his version of hits from artists such as Elvis Presley and Bob Dylan to YouTube and several music streaming services.
Hinckley shot and wounded Reagan, his press secretary James Brady, Secret Service agent Timothy McCarthy and Washington police officer Thomas Delahanty when he open fire on Reagan as he was leaving a speaking engagement at a Washington, D.C. hotel.
Reagan was hit under the left armpit but recovered. McCarthy and Delahanty recovered from their wounds. Brady, who was shot in the head, was left paralyzed.
According to writings from Hinckley, he shot Reagan to impress actress Jodie Foster.
He was apprehended at the scene of the shooting and was found guilty by reason of insanity. He was sentenced to serve his term in a psychiatric facility and was released from that care in 2016. Last year, he was released from all oversight.
