The Aurora Police Department said in a news release that its officers arrested Lloyd Clifford Love for a shooting on Oct. 20 outside of a business. Officers said the shooting was the result of a dispute between Love and his former employer.

The victim, identified as Marvin Johnson, was found shot outside American Eagle Protective Services, his company, WUSA reported. Police said that while officers and paramedics tried to save Johnson, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police immediately set up a perimeter to search for the suspect, identified as Lloyd Love, and arrested him after stopping a car in which he was a passenger.

In an affidavit obtained by KDVR, investigators said that Love shot his former boss because he was upset over a typo in his paycheck. Love had received his first paycheck from the company on Thursday, but was unable to cash it because the check incorrectly listed his middle initial as “K,” KDVR reported.

Love told police that when he was unable to cash his check, he called the business demanding a new check. The company told him it could not issue a new check without Love returning the old check, which Love said that he had ripped up in frustration, KDVR reported. In the affidavit obtained by KDVR, police said that Johnson was trying to calm the situation and instruct his wife to write Love a new paycheck, when Love took out a gun and shot him.

Police said that Love called his girlfriend to pick him up, and told her “I just did something stupid,” but refused to tell her what he did, KDVR reported.

When police interviewed Lloyd, he told them he had only worked for the company for a few days, but was not allowed to be armed because of previous felony convictions, according to KDVR.

Lloyd was taken to the Arapahoe County Jail, where online records indicate he is being held without bond.
