BOONE COUNTY, Ark. — A couple is facing charges after investigators said a man cut off his own leg in front of his young child.
In an arrest affidavit obtained by KARK, Boone County sheriff’s deputies arrived at a home to find a man lying in front of the residence naked and missing part of his leg. The man, identified as Shannon Cox, said his leg had been removed with a “chop saw,” and deputies said that a trail of blood led to a large saw and the detached limb.
According to deputies, the only other person at the residence at the time was a 5-year-old girl, KTLO reported. Deputies said that the child was present during the incident.
When deputies interviewed Cox’s wife, Sandy, she said that her husband had made odd statements the day before, saying that “he was Jesus Christ” and saying she “needed to get right with the lord,” KARK reported. Sandy also told deputies that her husband became violent and claimed to be Satan.
Sandy told deputies that at one point, her husband threatened to “twist her head off,” prompting her to leave, KTLO reported. She told deputies that she was afraid her husband would kill her, but said that she was not concerned about her daughter when asked why she didn’t take the 5-year-old with her, according to KTLO.
The child, who was not identified, told deputies that she witnessed her father cut off his own leg, KARK reported. Deputies described the child as being in shock.
Both Sandy and Shannon Cox were each charged with a felony count of first-degree endangering the welfare of a minor, and were released on a $10,000 bond, KTLO reported.
Both adults were ordered not to have contact with the child, KARK reported.
