PEARL, Miss. — A Mississippi woman has been charged with murder after she allegedly threw her infant daughter onto a roadway last week.
The Pearl Police Department says 20-year-old Makaylia Shaylynn Jolley has been charged with capital murder and felony child abuse after her two-month-old daughter died Saturday.
Police say Khalysie Lashay Jolley was “forcibly thrown” onto a roadway around 2 p.m. When officers arrived in the area, they found a woman holding Khalysie who was severely injured. She was taken to the Children’s Hospital of Mississippi. The Associated Press said she was placed on a ventilator and was unresponsive. She died two days later from her injuries. Jolley ran into the woods and was chased back to the area, where police took her into custody.
Chief Dean Scott with Pearl Police Department told WAPT that Jolley was known to law enforcement officers.
“The act was very deliberate and intentional. She showed no remorse throughout the day (Thursday),” said Chief Scott to WAPT.
No further information has been released. The AP says Khalysie’s older brother is now living with his grandmother.
