Mother, 2 daughters killed in SC crash on Mother’s Day, 1 day after youngest daughter’s graduation

CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. — A recent college graduate who was supposed to start her career in Savannah was killed along with her mother and sister in a crash involving a deputy in South Carolina on Mother’s Day.

The accident happened around 11 p.m. Sunday on Savannah Highway near Hollywood, South Carolina. Officers said Deputy Emily Pelletier was responding to a call when her cruiser crashed into a sedan with three people inside. Pelletier was taken to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

Three women died at the scene.

The Charleston County Coroner has identified the victims as 22-year-old Miranda Dantzler-William;, her sister, 28-year-old Shanice Dantzler-Williams; and the girls’ mother, 53-year-old Stephania Dantzler.

Miranda Dantzler-Williams had just graduated from Claflin University the day before with a degree in criminal justice. Her mother and sister attended her commencement convocation on Saturday.

She was set to start a job in Savannah in the next two weeks, a family friend told Channel 2 Action News.

As first responders worked on the crash, another car plowed into a sheriff’s office cruiser, sending three more people to the hospital. One deputy remains in the intensive care unit and the driver who hit the cruiser is also still in the hospital.

Sheriff Kristin Graziano said in an emotional news conference Wednesday morning that the crash has hit the community hard.

“The girls were inseparable. They did everything together. The family is heartbroken. They are devastated. We are devastated. They are leaning on their faith to get through this,” Graziano said. “They were three kind, loving and precious souls.”

Granzino said her department is reviewing their response policies to ensure “we are doing our best to serve the public.”
