MOBILE, Ala. — Multiple people were injured Friday night when a gunman opened fire during a high school football game in Mobile, Alabama, authorities said.
Update 7:28 a.m. EDT Oct. 16: Mobile Police Chief Paul Prine said four people -- three males and one female -- were injured in the shooting, and that two of the victims are juveniles, WKRG reported.
At a news conference, Prine said the shooting happened on the exit ramp on the west side of Ladd-Peebles Stadium. At least two people fled the scene in a white sedan, the television station reported.
“This type of gun violence is not going to be tolerated, and as the new chief, we will be very serious about it,” Prine told reporters. “If you’re involved in this in any way, you need to turn yourself in.”
Original report: At least one victim suffered life-threatening injuries, WALA reported. The shooting occurred at about 9:56 p.m. CDT at Ladd-Peebles Stadium, according to the Mobile Police Department spokesperson Officer Katrina Frazier.
“Multiple injuries have been reported, and those victims have been transported to the hospital,” WKRG reported, citing a statement from the Mobile Police Department.
Williamson High School was hosting Vigor High School of Prichard when the shots broke out with about six minutes remaining in the contest, AL.com reported. Spectators scattered toward the exits, and some spilled onto the field, the website reported.
