YUBA CITY, Calif. — A police force in Yuba City, California, announced days before the Easter holiday that they have added a bunny to its force.
The Yuba City Police Department announced on Facebook in a Wednesday post that the bunny joined its wellness program. The wellness program is set up for employees and their families and helps prioritize mental and physical health with tools and resources to assist their well-being.
The police department announced the bunny’s promotion to “wellness officer,” according to The Associated Press.
On Oct. 21, 2022, Officer Ashley Carson was patrolling around Yuba City and came across a bunny that seemed to be lost on Percy Avenue. The officer picked up the bunny and realized how friendly he was, police say. The bunny was taken to animal control but no one claimed it so the Yuba City Police Services Analyst decided to adopt him.
The bunny is named Percy because he was found on Percy Avenue, police say.
“Officer Percy lounges at the police department during the day and is a support animal for all,” the police department said on Facebook.
“The Easter Bunny could not be reached for comment. Case closed,” the AP said.
