OSAGE COUNTY, Okla. — An Oklahoma woman is dead after she was apparently attacked by pit bulls while house-sitting, authorities said.
According to the Pawhuska Journal-Capital, the incident occurred Saturday at a home near Skiatook. The Osage County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to the home for a welfare check and arrived to find Rebecca McCurdy, 28, dead in the garage, the newspaper reported.
Investigators noticed “several pit bull dogs caged in the garage,” as well as one toppled cage and “many signs of a dog attack,” the Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
McCurdy had been watching the dogs while the homeowner, who said he raises pit bulls “for hobby/sale,” was away, the release added.
The Sheriff’s Office, which removed the dogs from the home, continues to investigate the case, the Journal-Capital reported.
McCurdy’s funeral is set for Thursday, according to an online obituary. A GoFundMe campaign has been started for her family.
