BEAUFORT COUNTY, S.C. — One person has been killed in an apparent alligator attack on Monday in South Carolina.
According to ABC News, a large alligator was spotted near a pond at an adult-only community near Sun City Hilton Head, South Carolina, on Monday.
The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office said they received a call just after 11 a.m. about a woman who was spotted in a lagoon, according to WJCL.
When rescue crews arrived on the scene, they were greeted by an alligator who was guarding what crews believed to be a body, according to WCSC.
Crews were able to rescue the body around 1 p.m. on Monday. According to WJCL, the Department of Natural Resources has been assisting to remove the alligator.
The woman has not yet been identified. No further information has been released.
