Pilot reports ‘guy in jetpack’ during LAX approach

LOS ANGELES — Pilots are used to seeing other aircraft high in the sky, but it’s a totally different experience seeing a person zooming around wearing a jetpack like a rocketeer.

A pilot flying for American Airlines reported that there was a person strapped to a jetpack in the path of incoming flights at Los Angeles International Airport on Sunday evening, KTTV reported.

The pilot of American Airlines flight 1997 was approaching LAX at 3,000 feet and 10 miles from the airport when he reported to the tower he saw a “guy in a jetpack” flying.

A second pilot reported the flying man.

The tower warned other flights approaching the airport, KABC reported.

KTTV contacted American Airlines. Company representatives said to contact the Federal Aviation Administration. The FAA representative said a report was turned over to the Los Angeles Police Department. The LAPD said it did not receive any report from the FAA concerning a flying person with a jetpack.
