HOOVER, Ala. — Police in Hoover, Alabama have charged an Alabama woman who admitted to staging a fake kidnapping earlier this month.
Carlee Russell was charged with two misdemeanors, false reporting to law enforcement authorities and falsely reporting an incident.
She turned herself in to the Hoover City Jail and has since posted bond and been released.

Polices said Russell vanished on July 13 along an Alabama highway after she called to report seeing a toddler wandering alone.

She returned home unharmed more than 48 hours later and told police she had been taken against her will.
On July 24, her attorney released a statement from Russell, who admitted to fabricating the kidnapping story and apologized for the hoax.
