The Consumer Product Safety Commission and 3M have announced the recall of more than 516,000 thermal laminators because of a potential fire hazard.
The recall involves the following Scotch thermal laminator models:
- TL1302
- TL1302VP
- TL1302EF
- TL1302KIT
The model number can be found on a sticker and only includes “TL1302,″ not the succeeding letters, the CPSC said.
The laminators also have “Scotch” printed on the front of the device. They were produced in a light gray or white color with gray accents and were sold at stores such as Walmart, Staples, Costco and online retailers from April 2014 through October 2022, retailing for between $35 and $90.
There have been nine reports of the laminators catching fire — with at least three resulting in minor property damage — according to the CPSC.
Owners of the recalled devices are told to stop using them immediately, unplug them and contact 3M for a full refund and instructions on how to dispose of the laminator.
