The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has issued a safety advisory for organic baby spinach.
The CDC said Josie’s Organics Baby Spinach has been linked to an outbreak of E. coli.
The spinach was sold at stores nationwide in plastic clamshell containers and has a best-by date of Oct. 23, 2021.
Health officials in Minnesota found E. coli contamination in a package of leftover Josie’s spinach after a person became sick.
So far, people in seven states have been diagnosed with E. coli linked to the spinach, according to the CDC.
Five other people have said they ate spinach before they became ill, with one person specifying the spinach was from Josie’s Organics.
If you have the spinach, do not eat it. Either throw it away or return it to the place of purchase, the CDC advises.
Wash any items and surfaces that came in contact with the spinach.
Call your doctor if you have any of the symptoms of E. coli including:
- Diarrhea and a fever of more than 102 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Diarrhea for more than three days that has not improved.
- Bloody diarrhea.
- Vomiting where you cannot keep liquids down.
- Signs of dehydration.
