Seattle’s famous dog who rode the bus to the dog park by herself, dies

SEATTLE — Eclipse, the Seattle dog who became famous for taking a bus by herself to the park, has died, according to her official Facebook page.

According to her Facebook page, the 10-year-old black labrador-bull mastiff mix was recently diagnosed with cancer and passed away in her sleep on Friday morning.

Eclipse first made headlines when she started riding the bus alone in 2015, according to KIRO-TV.

It all began when her human companion, Jeff Young, took too long finishing a cigarette, and Eclipse hopped on the bus without him, a routine she had learned from her usual outings.

According to CNN, she started taking the bus from downtown Seattle to a dog park, making friends and exercising before taking the bus back home.

Eclipse would even have her bus pass attached to her collar.

Young said Eclipse would ride the three to four stops on the D-Line on her own and always knew where to get off, KIRO reported.

King County Metro allows dogs on public transport at the driver’s discretion.

The public transit authority posted a tribute to the “good dog” on Twitter.

Eclipse was a super sweet, world-famous, bus riding dog and true Seattle icon. You brought joy and happiness to everyone and showed us all that good dogs belong on the bus.
