PITTSBURGH — A Pittsburgh Catholic school is honoring the memory of a teacher who died of breast cancer by renaming a memorial Santa breakfast in her name.

Breakfast with Santa is a time for kids to tell the big man in the red suit what they would like to see under the tree -- and a chance for students at Our Lady of Grace to get credit for their required service projects. Putting the two together made perfect sense for beloved Our Lady of Grace teacher Amy Fallert.

Fallert’s daughter, Mallory Fallert, told WPXI her mother thought, “I love Christmas, I love my eighth-grade students, they need service hours -- let’s do a Santa breakfast.”

Nearly all the decorations at this year's Santa Breakfast at Our Lady of Grace came from Amy Fallert's personal collection, save for the Angel Tree. The tree was covered in pink angels to raise awareness about breast cancer.

Amy Fallert died of breast cancer in June.

At her funeral, it was announced that this year's Santa Breakfast would be renamed as the Amy Fallert Memorial Santa Breakfast.

“She’s greatly missed,” Mallory Fallert told WPXI. “Like confetti, she’s left her spot everywhere in this world.”
