According to WSAV-TV, the incident happened May 12 as Lark was driving on the freeway with her brother, Kevin Grant. Suddenly, Lark spotted what she thought was a brick in the air, heading straight for her vehicle.

Seconds later, something crashed into the right side of her windshield, inches away from Grant, the pair told WSAV. But it wasn't a brick; it was a turtle.

Lark and Grant said a car ahead of them likely had struck the reptile, sending it in their direction.

"When the glass broke, the first thing that came to my mind was just to shield myself," said Grant, whose quick thinking paid off: He suffered only small cuts.

“Mr. Turtle was found at fault, but he did not have insurance,” she quipped in her Facebook post. “He got escorted to the wildlife reserve, I got stuck with the bill.”

The turtle, protected by its shell, initially survived the impact but lost a leg, Lark told WSAV. The turtle died Monday from an excessive loss of blood, Lark told the television station.
