KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. — A woman died Friday afternoon after an encounter involving an alligator in South Carolina, deputies said.
Officials said they were called around 5 p.m. to Kiawah Island in Charleston County for reports of an alligator encounter, WCIV reported.

Officers did not give details about the encounter with the reptile.

Authorities said a deputy fatally shot the alligator and retrieved it. The size of the alligator was not released.
The woman’s identity has also not been released.
