Woman indicted in August deaths of 2 men found in lake near Georgia-Alabama state line

LAGRANGE, Ga. — A Georgia man and woman accused of committing a double homicide over the summer were indicted Monday on 18 charges, including murder and robbery.

Joshua Wayne Nutt, 39, and Abbrianna Marie Williams, 25, both of LaGrange, are named in an 18-count indictment that lists multiple counts of malice murder, felony murder and armed robbery among the charges against the couple.

The pair is accused of killing Marcus Lee Caswell Jr., 46, and Travis Michael Lodato, 31, who were roommates in Newnan at the time of their deaths. The men’s bodies were pulled from West Point Lake the evening of Aug. 9 and morning of Aug. 10, respectively. West Point Lake abuts the Georgia-Alabama state line east of LaGrange.

The indictment indicates the men were slain Aug. 8.

Nutt is also charged with possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, court documents show. Williams is charged with providing false statements when she denied knowing the murdered men.

She also denied seeing the men at Nutt’s home on Lower Big Springs Road the day of the fatal shootings.

Family members of the men told WSB-TV in Atlanta that the pair might have traveled the 45 miles to LaGrange to either buy or sell a motorcycle. When their bodies were found, their motorcycles, wallets, cellphones and jewelry were missing.

The indictment accuses Nutt and Williams of killing the men for the purpose of taking the pair of Suzuki motorcycles the victims were riding that night.

Troup County authorities said deputies were called to the lake the evening of Aug. 9 after a boater spotted a body floating in the water. Sheriff’s Office personnel recovered the body and brought it to shore.

WSB-TV reported that the fisherman and deputies initially thought the man, later identified as Caswell, might have drowned. When they got his body to shore, however, they discovered a gunshot wound to his head.

Shortly after 11 a.m. the following day, Lodato’s body was discovered, according to the news station. Like Caswell, Lodato had been shot in the head.
