ST. PAUL, Minn. — A subcontractor working to install cable in St. Paul was hurt in a freak accident on Wednesday that led to the loss of his leg.
Crews were working to install cable and had a portion of cable unraveled across the road that vehicles were allowed to drive across, WCCO reported.
The cable got snagged on a passing vehicle, which may have been a Metro Transit Bus, which pulled the cable tight, because it was still attached to a nearby spool, MPR reported. The cable entangled a worker standing nearby, whose leg became caught.
The force of the cable around the man’s leg yanked him into the street, where he hit the side of a pickup truck, the Pioneer Press reported. The force of the tension also severed the man’s leg near his knee.
First responders took the man to a hospital, where officials said he is expected to survive, KTSP reported.
All drivers involved in the accident are cooperating with police as they continue their investigation, the Pioneer Press reported.
