UGA Running Back Caleb King Arrested

ATHENS, Ga. — Georgia running back Caleb King became the school's 11th football player to be arrested this year on Monday.

School spokesman Claude Felton said King was picked up in Athens for failing to appear at a court date in nearby Walton County to address a speeding ticket.

Walton County Sheriff Joe Chapman said King paid a $300 fine after the arrest and he was released Monday morning.

Channel 2 Action News reporter Tom Regan has learned that King's brother, Brandon, was stopped for a traffic violation outside of Athens. Officers ran a check on Brandon King's license and found it was not valid, police said.

Hilda Sorrow with the Athens-Clarke County Police Department said Brandon King called his brother, Caleb, to come pick up his car. When Caleb King arrived, officers ran a check on his license and found he was wanted on an outstanding warrant, Sorrow said.

Felton says coach Mark Richt is aware of the situation and gathering information. The school may have an update later Monday on King's status for this week's game against Vanderbilt.

King led the Bulldogs with 58 yards rushing in a 41-14 victory over Tennessee this past weekend, which snapped Georgia's four-game losing streak. For the season, he ranks second on the team with 228 yards and one touchdown.
