Watch 'Georgia's Hidden Treasures' Wednesday at 8 p.m.

ATLANTA — Channel 2 reveals the secrets of the Chattahoochee on the next "Georgia's Hidden Treasures". Channel 2 Action News anchors Justin Farmer and Jovita Moore get an in-depth look at the historical impact of the river, Georgia's dependence on the waterway, and its new economic boom.

Channel 2 explores decades into the Chattahoochee's past. Jovita Moore shows viewers the little known Riverwalk in Columbus, Georgia. There the Riverwalk is a prime example of how cities can use the waterway to attract businesses and tourists alike. Moore also learns the historical secrets uncovered alongside the riverside that paint a picture of Georgia life from hundreds of years ago.

It's no secret that the Chattahoochee was once an eyesore riddled with pollution, trash and chemical leaks. Justin Farmer learns of the massive undertaking that has cleaned up the state's main water source. The Chattahoochee River Keeper reveals why preserving the river's environment is crucial for not only metro Atlanta but all of Georgia.


Channel 2 Action News Chief Meteorologist Glenn Burns takes us down the river in the present day. He joins Farmer on a guided tour of its winding waters and lends his expertise to explain the weather's impact on the Chattahoochee today.

 

We close our detailed look at the river with an epic journey that only a few people have made in history. A Georgia man's great sojourn from the humble beginning that is the river's head waters to where 'The Hooch' comes to an end. Viewers will also get a nostalgic look back at the fun from days gone by such as, "The Ramblin' Raft Race". The special will not only reveal the Chattahoochee's importance as a natural resource but it will show that it is also a hidden treasure.
