Woman Surrenders After Animals Found In Filthy House

CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ga. — A woman wanted in connection with an animal cruelty case in Cherokee County has turned herself in.

Shari Cahill faces 81 misdemeanor counts of animal cruelty after investigators said they found nearly 130 cats and dogs living in a filthy house.

In addition to the living animals, authorities discovered the carcasses of 23 cats and kittens and a dog. Many of the dead animals were in advance stages of decomposition, authorities said.

A neighbor's complaints of a foul odor coming from the house led police to the discovery, the Cherokee County Marshal's office told Channel 2 Action News reporter Tom Regan.

"In all my years, it's the worst I have ever seen," Chief Marshal Ray Waters said.

The home is on Sugar Mill Lane in Cherokee County, in a neighborhood of large upscale homes surrounded by pastureland.
