Atlanta Motor Speedway will get 2 NASCAR Cup Series races again starting in 2021

HAMPTON, Ga. — Atlanta Motor Speedway hasn’t had two NASCAR Cup Series races in the same season since 2010. That will change starting next year.

NASCAR revealed part of its 2021 racing schedule Wednesday morning. Atlanta will have its annual Fold of Honors QuikTrip 500 on March 21 plus the Quaker State 400 on July 11. It will be the first July race at the track in 47 years, according to the speedway.

“We’re beyond excited to deliver what our fans have been yearning for: a second weekend of NASCAR action in Atlanta once again,” said AMS Executive Vice President and General Manager Brandon Hutchison. “Folds of Honor and QuikTrip continue to be phenomenal partners for our spring weekend of racing and we’re thrilled to have Quaker State on board this summer as we put together two weekends of entertainment and excitement for race fans.”

While fans couldn’t attend Atlanta race this year because of the pandemic, the speedway and campgrounds plan to host fans with social distancing measures and limited capacity in place.

AMS will make accommodations on a first-come, first-served basis for people who originally had tickets for this year’s race followed by fans who make a deposit.

Anyone who would like to attend is asked to contact the ticket office as soon as possible.

“Our goal is to host as many fans as possible, as safely as we can, to enjoy the excitement of NASCAR in Atlanta,” said Hutchison. “It’s going to be one heck of a show when the likes of Chase Elliott, Kevin Harvick, and Kyle Busch battle on these challenging high banks.”

“We’re committed to doing everything in our power to allow fans to attend our race and, following the examples set by our sister speedways in other parts of the country, our staff is working diligently to make it happen in a safe and responsible way.”

AMS previously hosted the Atlanta 500 every March since the track opened in 1960 until 2010. NASCAR awarded a race to Kentucky Speedway. The track’s fall race, known now as the Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500, has run in the spring since then.
