ATLANTA — The Atlanta Braves filled at least one of their needs for starting pitching Sunday morning, trading for Baltimore Orioles pitcher Tommy Milone.
The Braves will send two “players to be named later” to Baltimore in exchange for Milone who has a 1-4 record with a 3.99 ERA in six starts this season.
The 33-year old left hand pitcher has been in the majors for nine seasons, making his debut in 2011 with the Washington Nationals. Since then he’s pitched for Oakland, Minnesota, Milwaukee, the New York Mets, Washington and Seattle before joining Baltimore after the 2019 season.

The Braves starting pitching staff has struggled during the shortened pandemic delayed season with ace Mike Soroka lost for the season after an Achilles injury. Off season acquisition Cole Hamels has battled injuries and has yet to pitch while projected starters Mike Foltynewicz and Sean Newcomb struggled with control and were sent to the teams practice facility in Gwinnett. Rookie pitchers Kyle Wright and Touki Toussaint have also started games but were wildly inconsistent, leaving Max Fried as the only regularly effective starting pitcher on the staff.
Milone, who has 51 wins and 51 losses during his career, will likely join Fried and recent call-up Ian Anderson as starters for the club who play Sunday night vs. Philadelphia. Rookie reliever Huscuar Ynoa will start that game with the Braves hoping to get at least three good innings out of him.
Infielder Matt Adams was designated for assignment to clear a spot on the Braves roster for Milone.
