In what should come as a surprise to no one, the Southeastern Conference named Georgia’s Anthony “Ant-Man” Edwards as SEC Freshman Player of the Year.

He is the first Georgia player voted SEC Freshman of the Year by league coaches since the award was created in 2001.

Edwards also earned All-SEC Second Team and All-Freshman Team honors.

Edwards grew up in Atlanta and played at Holy Spirit Prep School, where he became the nation’s top-ranked high school basketball player.

He decided to stay close to home when he chose UGA over Florida State, Kentucky and North Carolina.

Edwards is projected to be a lottery pick in this year’s NBA draft.

As Georgia fans await to hear Edwards’ NBA decision, the team opens play in the SEC tournament against Ole Miss in Nashville on Wednesday.
