Bulldogs, former Georgia high school players named to AP All-America teams

Three Georgia Bulldogs can add All-American to their resumes. The Associated Press unveiled its All-America first, second and third teams Monday afternoon and several Georgia players made the list.

Junior offensive tackle Andrew Thomas and senior safety J.R. Reed were named to the AP All-America 1st team. No. 5 Georgia is only one of four teams to have multiple first-team selections along with No. 1 LSU, No. 2 Ohio State and No. 11 Minnesota.

Senior kicker Rodrigo Blankenship, who won the 2019 Lou Groza Award, was named to the AP All-American 2nd team.

Along with former Pace Academy player Thomas, five other players who are from Georgia also made the teams:

  • Auburn defensive tackle Derrick Brown (hometown: Sugar Hill, Ga.), Lanier High School, AP First Team
  • Florida Atlantic tight end Harrison Bryant (hometown: Gray, Ga.), John Milledge Academy, AP First Team
  • Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields (hometown: Kennesaw, Ga.), Harrison High School, AP Second Team
  • Minnesota wide receiver Rashod Bateman (hometown: Tifton, Ga.), Tift County High School, AP Third Team
  • Alabama defensive back Xavier McKinney (hometown: Roswell, Ga.), Roswell High School, AP Third Team
