ATHENS, Ga. — One of Georgia’s star wide receivers will need surgery after he torn the ACL in his right knee.
Head coach Kirby Smart announced that George Pickens was injured during a non-contact play in Tuesday’s practice. Pickens will require surgery, but a full recovery is expected.
“The good news is that the MRI showed it to be an isolated injury with no other structures involved,” Smart said. “George is a hard worker. I know he will bring the same work ethic to rehab that he shows in practice every day.”

Pickens is highly regarded as the top receiving target for the Dawgs and quarterback J.T. Daniels.
The junior from Alabama led UGA with a team-high six touchdowns in eight games and tied for second in catches and receiving yards last year.
The wide receiver also led the team in touchdowns and receiving yards his freshman year when he won the MVP in UGA’s Sugar Bowl win over Baylor.
The athletic department did not give a timetable for how long Pickens’ recovery will take.
