Game blog: No. 3 Georgia defeats No. 11 Oregon, 49-3

ATLANTA — The Georgia Bulldogs picked up right where they left off in January: in the win column.

No. 3 Georgia defeated No. 11 Oregon, 49-3, in front of a record-crowd at the Chick-Fil-A Kickoff Game Saturday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

It is the largest margin of victory in the kickoff game since Alabama beat Duke 42-3 in 2019.

Georgia scored touchdowns on seven straight possessions behind Stetson Bennett’s cannon.

The sixth-year senior finished 25-of-31 for 368 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Meanwhile his counterpart, Auburn transfer Bo Nix, came up empty in the touchdown column and threw two interceptions.

Chris Smith came up with one of those interceptions early in the game. He finished tied for second in total tackles behind Malaki Starks who finished with eight total tackles.

Here is how the game unfolded.

Oregon can’t convert on 4th and goal. Georgia takes over at its own 2 yard line and that will wrap it up.

The Dawgs will take a couple of knees for the 49-3 win over the Ducks.

Backup quarterback Carson Beck throws an 18-yard touchdown to Kendall Milton. Bulldogs are now up 49-3.

Stetson Bennett throws a perfect back-shoulder pass to Adonai Mitchell for a touchdown. Bulldogs pouring it on, up 42-3 in the third.

Bulldogs waste little time marching down the field to start the second half. Ladd McConkey scores again, this time a 9-yard run.

Stetson Bennett evades pressure, throws another touchdown to Ladd McConkey. Bulldogs are now up 28-3 in the closing minutes of the half.

Oregon gets on the board with a 35-yard field goal. Bulldogs still in control, up 21-3.

Kenny McIntosh runs it in from the goal line, giving the Bulldogs a commanding 21-0 lead.

Chris Smith intercepts Oregon quarterback Bo Nix and returns the ball into Oregon territory. Bulldogs are now up 14-0 with the ball.

Stetson Bennett executes a fake hand-off perfectly, instead keeping the ball and running it into the end zone. Bulldogs are now up 14-0.
