NEW ORLEANS — The Sugar Bowl is officially set after the Notre Dame Fighting Irish defeated the Indiana Hoosiers in the inaugural 12-team College Football Playoff.
Awaiting the Fighting Irish are the No. 2 ranked Georgia Bulldogs, weeks after defeating the Texas Longhorns in the SEC title game.

Notre Dame controlled the game from the start to the finish, holding the Hoosiers to just three points in the first half, 63 total rush yards and built a 27-3 lead before the Hoosiers scored late in the fourth quarter after the game was decided.

The Bulldogs, the No. 2 overall seed in the CFP received a first-round bye, giving them three weeks to rest and prepare for whoever won the opening round between the Irish and Hoosiers.
With recent news surrounding quarterback Carson Beck and his likely being done for the season, the Bulldogs will enter the Sugar Bowl being led by backup quarterback Gunner Stockton, who led the team to victory against the Texas Longhorns after it was determined Beck would not return.
The Sugar Bowl is set for a Jan. 1 8:45 p.m. kickoff on ESPN.
