UGA’s Brock Bowers nominated for Male Athlete of the Year at Student Athlete NIL Summit

ATLANTA — University of Georgia’s star football player Brock Bowers has been nominated for Male Athlete of the Year at the Student-Athlete NIL Awards

The award ceremony will take place Saturday night at the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta.

The NIL Summit is a weekend-long event that gives student-athletes from across the nation a space to network alongside influencers and companies to share ideas and collaborate.

Bowers, a sophomore standout and projected 2024 NFL draft prospect has NIL deals with Associated Credit Union, Zaxby’s, Dick’s Sporting Goods, and others. These deals bring Bowers’ annual value to over $720,000 according to On3.

The Male Athlete of the Year award recognizes male student-athletes who have exhibited the best use of their Name, Image, and Likeness.

According to Student-Athelte NIL, judges pick student-athletes who have best leveraged their NIL across multiple brands to create maximum impact for their business partners.

In only its second year, the 2023 NIL Summit will also have multiple panels discussing topics to help student-athletes navigate through their collegiate career all while tapping into name, image, and likeness deals.

Channel 2 Action News spoke with the President and CEO of the College Football Hall of Fame, Kimberly Beaudin.

Beaudin believes hosting Student-Athletes NIL is a great thing for the College Football Hall of Fame’s mission.

“We are excited to host student-athletes from across the country at the College Football Hall of Fame for a multi-day professional development experience learning to maximize benefit from their Name, Image and Likeness. Given the Hall’s mission, flexible footprint, and cutting edge technology, we are the perfect venue for this event,” she said. “Our goal is that these student athletes take full advantage of the opportunity and leave with new skills to build their brands and leverage their talents in a thoughtful and strategic way.”

Co-owner and vice president of WNBA’s Atlanta Dream, Renee Montgomery, Georgia Tech’s associate athletic director Simit Shah, and former NFL quarterback Michael Vick are expected to participate on panels.
