The Atlantic Coast Conference announced Wednesday it plans for now to proceed with the 2020 season but with an updated scheduled.
The conference will only play a 10-game conference schedule and one non-conference game versus an in-state opponent.
That means the Georgia rivalry game could still be on the table for Georgia Tech if the leagues approve it.
The ACC Board of Directors said fall sports will begin during the week of Sept. 7-12 if public health guidance allows it.
“Today’s decision was made after months of thoughtful planning by numerous individuals throughout the conference,” ACC Commissioner John Swofford said in a statement. “The Board’s decision presents a path, if public health guidance allows, to move forward with competition. Our institutions are committed to taking the necessary measures to facilitate the return in a safe and responsible manner. We recognize that we may need to be nimble and make adjustments in the future. We will be as prepared as possible should that need arise.”
Along with the number of games limited, the other big change is Notre Dame will play a complete conference schedule.
The Fighting Irish, who usually compete as an independent in football, will be eligible to compete in the ACC championship game.
Here is a look at the Yellow Jackets’ updated football schedule:
- Home games: Duke, Clemson, Louisville, Notre Dame and Pitt
- Road games: Boston College, Florida State, Miami, NC State and Syracuse
