Braves re-sign Heredia and Arcia; Duvall, other starters set for arbitration

While a potential MLB lockout looms this week, the Atlanta Braves made some roster moves Tuesday with new contracts.

The Braves re-signed centerfielder and hype man Guillermo Heredia to a 1-year, $1 million deal along with shortstop Orlando Arcia to a 2-year, $3 million contract.

Arcia’s contract will be split with $1.6 million next season and $1.3 million in 2023. The contract also includes a $2 million option for the 2024 season.

MLB teams had until 8 p.m. Tuesday to either tender or non-tender contracts for players who are eligible for arbitration.

Atlanta tendered contracts to Adam Duvall, Dansby Swanson, Austin Riley and pitchers Max Fried, Mike Soroka, Luke Jackson, Tyler Matzek, A.J. Minter and Sean Newcomb, according to MLB.com.

The tendered players’ 2022 salaries will be decided through arbitration unless an agreement is reached like the team did with Heredia and Arcia.

The Braves decided not to offer a 2022 contract to infielder Johan Carmargo and pitchers Jasseel De La Cruz and Richard Rodríguez. Carmargo was signed by Atlanta out of Panamanian league in 2010 and he made his debut for the Braves seven years later.

Braves fans are still eagerly awaiting for the team to re-sign Freddie Freeman to a new contract. There are reports that Freeman would be interested in a 6-year, $180 million deal.

Joc Pederson, Eddie Rosario and Jorge Soler, who were all acquired in key trades, also remain free agents.
