NEW YORK — Atlanta United’s time in the MLS playoffs for the first time since 2019 was short lived after falling to New York FC on Sunday afternoon.
Atlanta United faced New York FC on Sunday in the first round of the playoffs, which aired live on Channel 2.
The teams were tied up heading into halftime, but New York scored two goals in the second half, and Atlanta wasn’t able to get on the board. The final score was 2-0.

Channel 2′s Alison Mastrangelo also caught up with former defender Greg Garza about a mentorship program he started with former captain Michael Parkhurst.

Ahead of Sunday’s game, Atlanta United was 4-3-3 against New York City FC. The teams met twice this season with New York winning at home 1-0 in June and tying Atlanta on the road in October.
Both teams previously met during the playoffs during United’s 2018 run to winning the MLS title.
Josef Martinez leads Atlanta with five career goals in the MLS Cup Playoffs. Martinez also leads Atlanta with five career goals against New York City.
