Meet the Atlanta Hawks superfan who’s had season tickets for 40 years

This Atlanta Hawks postseason run has been special for sports fans in Atlanta and all across the metro area.

But it’s been more special for one woman who was born in Georgia and has been a Hawks season ticket holder for 39 years and hardly ever misses a game.

When you walk into the Snellville home of Dr. Rogsbert Phillips-Reed, it is immediately apparent that she is an avid sports fan.

With pictures from the Masters to Wimbledon displayed on her wall, it’s no secret that she has attended many memorable sporting events throughout her life.

“I love the action, I love the skillset. It’s amazing how you take a little ball and put it in the basket,” she said.

Phillips-Reed has been a season ticket member with the Hawks since 1982 and she has pretty great seats for all the home games.

“When I got to events, I’m not going to be way in the back. I’m going to be way upfront…I just like the atmosphere meet people talk with them and have created some long term relationships,” she told Mastrangelo.

During her almost 40 years as a season ticket holder, she’s probably attended give or take about 1,500 home games.

“I love this team and I love this coach. You feel that the team fully respects the coach and the coach respects each individual player,” Phillips-Reed said.

Her love for the team goes beyond the regular season. She’s also gone to every home playoff game this year.

“I’ve been patient long enough. It’s nice to say I’ve been there when you were struggling and now you’re on top. So let’s stay on top,” she said.

Phillips-Reed told Mastrangelo that her favorite player of course is Trae Young because of his ball handling skills, basketball IQ and his passion to want to be the best in the game.

“It appears his foundation is there and his love of the game is there and he has fun,” she said.

While she doesn’t want to jinx anything, she told Mastrangelo that she believes this team has the talent to bring a NBA title to Atlanta.

“That would be fantastic. It would mean a lot. My investment in this team, it would be paid off if they could get to the finals.”
