ATLANTA — Arthur Blank, Atlanta Falcons owner and chairman, announced today that Dan Quinn will no longer be the head coach of the team. Blank also fired general manager Thomas Dimitroff.

The Falcons remain 0 and 5 this season after Sunday’s loss to Carolina.

Quinn became coach for the Falcons in 2015 and led the team to a 5-0 start, becoming the first coach in franchise history to begin his career with five straight wins.

Quinn took over the club after serving as the Seattle Seahawks defensive coordinator for two seasons (2013-14), helping guide them to consecutive Super Bowl appearances.

In 2017, Quinn led the Falcons to the Super Bowl against the New England Patriots, where they lost in a record-breaking fashion many fans will never forget. After going up 28-3, the team began to fall apart in the second half. They lost in overtime 34-28.

Dimitroff is one of the of the longest-tenured general managers in the NFL. He began in Atlanta in 2008.

Quinn began his NFL coaching career in San Francisco as its defensive assistant in 2001 before moving on to coach the 49ers defensive line from 2003-2004. Quinn got his start coaching the defensive line at William and Mary in 1994, followed by a season at Virginia Military Institute. He held the same position with Hofstra for four seasons before being promoted to defensive coordinator in 2000.

Monday morning the falcons named Raheem Morris as interim head coach. Morris served as defensive coordinator under Quinn and has been a coach in the NFL for 18 years. Morris has been with the Falcons organization for six seasons.

The Falcons play the Minnesota Vikings next Sunday.
