Braves season ends in Game 7 heartbreak

ARLINGTON, Tx. — The Braves fell short of an upset of the Dodgers, ending their season and any hope of a return to the World Series.

Here’s how the game unfolded.

It was a tough night Saturday as the Los Angeles Dodgers held them off, walking away with a 3-1 Game 6 win and tying the best-of-seven series at three games each.

Braves fans have been gathering for each game just outside Truist Park in the courtyard and inside the stadium to watch and cheer them on.

Channel 2′s Audrey Washington talked to fans, who were hoping for a big in.

“I’ve been following the Braves since ’57 when Hank won the MVP award," James Sims said. “It means a lot to me, because we’ve had some bad luck with the Yankees, the Dodgers, and we’ve had some bad calls. So it means a lot to me.”

Anthony Matteo said he hopes the Braves avoid the Atlanta sports curse tonight.

“We can’t do the Atlanta thing,” Matteo said. “We’ve got to close it out tonight. This is the end of the road. World Series."

Saturday night was tough to watch after ace pitcher Max Fried gave up three runs in the first inning, but Fried and the relief pitchers would hold the Dodgers scoreless from there.

The Braves struggled themselves, only scoring one run in the 7th inning when Nick Markakis tripled and Ronald Acuna hit a double to knock in the run.

Twenty-two-year-old rookie pitcher Ian Anderson will start for Atlanta in Game 7.

The Dodgers have not yet announced who will start for them. Braves manager Brian Snitker has already said just about everyone on the pitching staff is available if needed for this must-win game.

The winner will face the Tampa Bay Rays in the World Series. Tampa Bay beat the Houston Astros 4-2 Saturday night in Game 7 of the ALCS played in San Diego. The World Series is slated to start on Tuesday in Arlington, Texas.
