Georgia jumps to No. 6 in latest College Football Playoff rankings

ATLANTA — If we learned anything from this past week of college football, it was “expect the unexpected.”

The top two teams in the College Football Playoff rankings went down, starting with No. 2 Miami on Friday.

The undefeated Hurricanes lost at Pitt in a game that really wasn’t even as close as the 24-14 final score.

Then, the Iron Bowl lived up to the hype on Saturday afternoon. No. 2 Alabama -- favorite by nearly a touchdown -- was upset by No. 6 Auburn.

And just like that, chaos.

After victories by Clemson, Oklahoma, Wisconsin, Georgia and Ohio State, there seems to be eight teams vying for the four spots in the College Football Playoff

Georgia jumped to No. 6 in this week's rankings, moving up from No. 7 last week.

Perhaps the best thing going for the Dawgs is the fact they get the chance to knock off the hottest team in college football this weekend in the SEC Championship.

If Kirby Smart’s team beats Auburn, they’re almost certainly a lock to make the College Football Playoffs.
