COBB COUNTY, Ga. — The Braves and Truist, the bank formed by the merger of SunTrust and BB&T, plan to unveil the new name of SunTrust Park next week.
The announcement by executives of the Braves and the bank will be made at a joint news conference at the stadium on Tuesday.
A name change was necessitated for the Braves’ three-year-old home stadium by the SunTrust-BB&T merger, which was finalized last month, and the renaming of the combined bank as Truist.
Braves president and CEO Derek Schiller told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution last month that the stadium would get a new name shortly after the first of the year.
“There is going to be a date where we are no longer called SunTrust Park and we’re called Truist something,” Schiller said at the time. “… I would expect we’re going to move fast on announcing those types of things once we get into the new year.”
The Braves have declined further comment on the matter this week.

Schiller and at least three Truist executives -- Chief Digital and Client Experience Officer Donta Wilson, Chief Marketing Officer Susan Somersille Johnson and Northern Georgia Region President Jenna Kelly -- are scheduled to participate in Tuesday’s news conference, which will be held in the stadium’s SunTrust Club.
In September 2014, the Braves and SunTrust announced a 25-year naming-rights deal, which began with the stadium’s 2017 opening. Truist assumes that deal, which has 22 years remaining.
