ATLANTA — WSB-TV Channel 2 presents Georgia Game Changers, a 30-minute Family 2 Family special focused on inspiring Georgians who super served communities in Atlanta and North Georgia.
Channel 2′s Fred Blankenship talks with NBA legend Dr. Shaquille O’Neal.
O’Neal is a game changer every day of his life. He now calls Georgia home and wants to spread positivity to everyone he meets. He currently serves as the Director of Community Relations for the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, working to improve relations between law enforcement and residents, particularly in communities of color. O’Neal is also a philanthropist, always donating his time and money to worthy causes. He has the Shaquille O’Neal Foundation and is heavily involved with the Shaquille O’Neal Boys & Girls Club of Henry County.
Then, homeless animals are getting a new life from the non-profit FurKids.
Channel 2′s Linda Stouffer spent the day with Samantha Shelton who is the founder of FurKids, a non-profit focused on rescuing, rehabilitating and finding new homes for dogs and cats. The group is now celebrating its 20th year. Pet adoptions spiked earlier in the pandemic when people decided to get pets, but that has slowed. Now local shelters are over-run with animals. FurKids operates the Southeast’s largest cage-free, no-kill animal shelter.
Finally, Ty Dennis is a former Atlanta Police Officer and the creator of Clippers and Cops, a non-profit that works to bridge the gap between citizens and police officers.
He also started “campus invasions”, where they go to local schools to get real with teens about the challenges of life, how to be productive members of society and how to deal with interactions with police.
