ATLANTA — Memorial Day got off to a stormy start on Monday morning.
A line of strong storms sparked numerous severe thunderstorm warnings and at least one tornado warning in the Channel 2 Action News viewing area.
Storms continued to pop up through the afternoon.
A severe thunderstorm warning was issued for Butts, Clayton, Coweta, Fayette, Henry and Spalding counties until 7 p.m.

The main threats were damaging wind gusts, hail and heavy rain. A brief, spin-up tornado is possible.
Channel 2′s Bryan Mims was in Coweta County, where a tornado-warned storm moved through. Work was still underway to clean up and restore power on Procter Street by Monday afternoon.
One tree collapsed on a pickup truck, crushing it.
“I woke up this morning to the loud clap of thunder,” Nate Brown said. “You know, I just thought it was lightning and thunder. And then around 8 a.m. I noticed the tree had completely fallen one of (my tenant’s) cars.”
In Sharpsburg, a tree fell onto a house, shattering a window. The homeowner said his young son had been sleeping in the room but wasn’t hurt.
The storm triggered tornado sirens in the community, and a tornado warning was issued for the county at about 8:30 a.m. But Battalion Chief Mark Griffin of Coweta County Fire Rescue said it did not appear that a tornado touched down.
“I haven’t seen any witnesses or anybody who can actually say there was a tornado,” he said. “It was mostly high winds.”
