ATLANTA — Severe Weather Team 2 has been tracking a significant severe weather threat developing this weekend.

Severe Weather Team 2 Chief Meteorologist Brad Nitz says there is a low risk for isolated strong storms in far northwest Georgia late Friday into early Saturday.

But the severe weather threat will increase for all of north Georgia Saturday night into early Sunday.

Count on Severe Weather Team 2 to prepare you for the severe weather threat as we track the system, LIVE on Channel 2 Action News.

Nitz says severe storms will be likely with the possibility for strong damaging winds and large damaging hail. There is also the potential for strong, long-track tornadoes.

The tornado risk is highest over west Georgia where we’ll have a stronger combination of storm energy and wind shear.

Severe Weather Team 2 says the best thing you can on Friday is prepare ahead of time for Saturday night and Sunday morning.

  • Download our WSB-TV Weather App: Make sure the severe weather notifications/alerts are turned on.
  • Make sure your devices are fully charged: Power outages are likely in this kind of a system Saturday night and early Sunday. If your power goes out, you can stream Severe Weather Team 2 coverage on the app and our WSB-TV news app
  • Know where you’re going to go if there is a tornado warning: The lowest level of your home (a basement is best) or an interior room away from windows and exterior walls. A bathroom or closet is usually the best spot.
