Heavy rain, isolated storms possible tonight in north Georgia

Be prepared for heavy rain and possible storms tonight.

Severe Weather Team 2 has been tracking a line of storms to our west in Mississippi and Alabama.

Here in north Georgia, there is a Level 1 out of 5 risk for strong to severe storms. The tornado threat is low, but not zero.

Here is what to expect for Wednesday:

  • Stronger storms are possible along I-20 and south
  • Main threats are heavy rain. 1-2 inches of rain likely
  • Flood Watch is in place for Floyd, Chattooga and Gordon counties until 7AM Thursday.
  • Wind gusts, brief tornado also possible
  • Drier and much colder air moves in Friday and into the weekend
