Winter storm warning canceled as snow moves out of Georgia

The snow and ice that caused destruction across North Georgia has moved out of the state and the watches and warning issued for the area have all been lifted.

Severe Weather Team 2 tracked the system since last week as it made its way toward Georgia.

Parts of the state’s highest elevations saw upwards of 10 inches of snow, while parts of the metro saw an icy, rainy mix that caused slick roads and tough driving conditions.

A mix of the snow and rain, along with high winds, knocked down trees and power lines across north Georgia as well.

Thousands were left without power throughout the course of the storm.

Now, the threat turns to the potential for black ice. Wet or slushy roads from snow and melted snow could refreeze overnight, particularly on elevated surfaces like bridges and overpasses.
